The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is Going to be Remade as a Drama Thanks to a Mock Trailer That Went Viral!
Back in March of 2019 we posted a mock trailer for a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air drama went viral. It didn’t take long to catch the eye of Will Smith and before you knew it, Director Morgan Cooper was rubbing shoulders with the West Philly legend himself. However, the hype since died down until news just hit that Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios has agreed to produce the remake.
According to The Hollywood Reporter “The drama series is currently being shopped to streamers and is a co-production between Smith’s Westbrook Studios and original producers Universal TV. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Peacock, Netflix and HBO Max are among the streamers who are bidding on the potential series. HBO Max is the current streaming home for the original series.”
The original trailer was entitled “Bel-Air” and for those who haven’t seen the trailer, the show is described as a dramatic take on the iconic 90’s sitcom. Cooper reimagined Will’s West Philly plight as well as diving deeper into the conflicts that arise once he gets to Bel-Air.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air which ran from 1990 til’ 1996 has been solidified as one of the great sitcoms of the era and has had a major cultural impact from fashion to music. Will Smith has since catapulted further into stardom and become a mega box office star.
It will be refreshing to see Will go back to his roots so to speak. However, this is definitely a tightrope to walk as this could wind-up cringey very easily. There hasn’t been confirmation yet on whether the the remake will use the same actors as in the trailer. However, Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios has a solid track record so far with dramas. If you haven’t yet check out “Sprinter” which was produced by Will & Jada Smith. In the meantime enjoy the original trailer to “Bel-Air.”
