The African American Museum in Philadelphia is Hosting a Juneteenth Block Party Featuring Kid ‘n Play
If there’s one thing Philly does the best in the summertime, it’s block parties. With that being said the African American Museum in Philadelphia is looking to celebrate Juneteenth with a special block party featuring the iconic hip hop duo Kid ‘n Play.
The block party will take place on June 19th from 12 pm to 7 pm at the African American Museum in Philadelphia (701 Arch St.) with this year’s theme being “Rhythms of Liberation: Celebrating Juneteenth Through Music,” during what is also Black Music Month.
Guests will get to enjoy a free museum day starting at 10 am courtesy of Wawa’s Welcome America then stay for a lineup of amazing live performances hosted by WURD Radio personalities Tiffany Bacon and Andrea Lawful-Sanders. Get ready to jam with hip-hop legends, this year’s headliners Kid ‘n Play as well as groove to the beats of Rich Medina spinning the best in R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and more. You’ll also get to feel the melodic vibes of Seraiah Nicole and West Philly’s own Suede Lace.
“Experience the heartbeat of freedom through captivating dance performances by Dance4Life that tells stories of resilience and liberation and celebrate the essence of Juneteenth with the soul-stirring poetry of Kai Davis, Philadelphia’s newly appointed Poet Laureate, as her words echo the resilience, triumph, and spirit of African American heritage,” organizers state.
As for food, party goers will get to choose from a variety of local food trucks including African and American dishes. Explore the Vendor Village, showcasing a curated selection of small Black-owned businesses, offering unique treasures that celebrate Black culture, heritage, and entrepreneurship. Prioritize your well-being with free health screenings, wellness workshops, and fitness demonstrations. There will be a wonderland for kids with activities like face painting, video games, mini sports, and photo opportunities.
Need a ride? Local trolley tour guides, Founding Footsteps will be offering complimentary shuttle service to and from Love Park (Near 15th & JFK). Pick up will be available 12 pm, 3 pm, and 5 pm. In addition look for the Founding Footsteps Trolley parked at the museum which will also host talks and conversations around Juneteenth history.
This event is part of Wawa’s Welcome America celebration and will offer free admission into the museum for those looking to discover the stories and legacies of African American history and culture and experience captivating exhibitions that celebrate culture and community.
