Starting March 1st The PPA Will Be Wiping Ticket Debts! Here’s The Catch….
The Philadelphia Parking Authority in Philly is no joke. In fact they were even given their own show on TV “Parking Wars.” I myself have found myself at the ticket counter on Filbert as well as the towing facility in South Philly. Obviously I am not alone when it comes to despising the PPA but it looks like they are extending an olive branch. This week the city put into effect the Amnesty Program which will eliminate ticket debts for those that have found themselves drowning in fines.
So what’s the catch? Well the program is only geared to those with substantial ticket debt prior to 2013. In addition towing and storage fees accumulated prior to 2015 will also be excused. In order to be eligible for the program you must be current with all tickets since 2013. Therefore, whatever debt occurred post 2013 you are responsible for and the city will pick up the tab for all debt prior to 2013. If the debt of your tickets post 2013 is still too much of a burden for you, PPA is allowing payment plan options in conjunction with the Amnesty Program.
But wait there’s more, an enrollment fee of $50 is also required. The program itself will only run from March 1st to April 30th. To enroll visit the PPA website.
The Amnesty Program was first introduced by Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell back in December after a recent audit revealed that the Philadelphia Parking Authority has failed to collect over $580 million in outstanding tickets and fees which resulting in $78 million in lost funds for The School District of Philadelphia. So it looks like the PPA and the city of Philadelphia want to start with a fresh slate. Hopefully they can devise a better system to collect fines so that the schools can receive the appropriate funds.
