Sophie’s BBQ Is Expanding to Philly With a New Location Inside Love City Manayunk

Philly’s barbecue scene is about to get a major addition. Sophie’s BBQ is officially expanding into the city, bringing its bold, smokehouse flavors to Main Street Manayunk through a new partnership with Love City Brewing.

Set to open later this spring at 4323 Main Street—inside the former Fat Lady Brewing space—the new location will serve as the food partner for Love City Manayunk, offering a full barbecue menu seven days a week.

Led by Executive Chef and Owner Greg Herman, Sophie’s BBQ has built a strong following in Havertown, known for its rich flavors and creative takes on barbecue staples. Now, Herman is returning to familiar ground.

“After customer requests and popular demand, we are excited to bring our BBQ to historic Main Street in Manayunk,” said Herman. “There’s nothing more classic than the pairing of great barbecue with amazing locally made beer.”

The collaboration with Love City Brewing Co-Owners Melissa and Kevin Walter brings together two brands rooted in craftsmanship—smoked meats and small-batch beer—under one roof.

Guests can expect a wide-ranging menu that blends classic barbecue with inventive comfort food. Highlights include:

  • Smokehouse Nachos with Cooper cheese sauce and candied jalapeños
  • BBQ Sliders featuring pulled chicken, pork, and brisket
  • Candy Bacon Mac topped with caramelized onions
  • Pork Belly Burnt Ends glazed in house BBQ
  • Brisket Cheesesteak with Cooper cheese sauce
  • St. Louis Ribs and BBQ Platters with house sides
  • Smoked Vegetarian Meatloaf for plant-based diners

Sides like collard greens, mac and cheese, BBQ beans, and butterscotch swirl cornbread round out the offering, creating a menu designed to complement Love City’s beer program.

The expansion marks a meaningful return to Manayunk for Herman, who lived and worked in the neighborhood earlier in his career.

“Manayunk has a very special place in my heart,” Herman shared. “It’s where I built relationships, met my wife, and really fell in love with the community. It feels like coming home.”

That connection helped shape the decision to expand into the neighborhood, especially as demand for barbecue continues to grow along Main Street.

Before the official opening, Sophie’s BBQ will offer a preview at the annual Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival on Sunday, April 19. Attendees will have the chance to sample select menu items, meet the team, and get a first taste of what’s to come. Food will be available pay-as-you-go, with Love City Brewing also serving outside during the festival.
