Schuylkill Banks Is Hosting Philly Fun Fishing Fest, a Free Catch-and-Release Fishing Event for All Skill Levels
The Schuylkill Banks will reel in anglers of all ages on Saturday, September 6, for the annual Philly Fun Fishing Fest. From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., participants can enjoy a morning of free, catch-and-release fishing along the river’s north and south banks near the Walnut Street Bridge.
This event welcomes everyone—from first-time fishers to seasoned pros—and no fishing license is required during the competition. Gear will be available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis, making it easy for anyone to join in.
The friendly competition wraps up at 11 a.m., followed by an award ceremony at 11:30 a.m., where prizes will be given for notable catches.
Accessibility is a priority for this event, with ADA access points at the Market Street Ramp, Chestnut Street Ramp, the at-grade railroad crossing at Locust Street, and the Schuylkill River Parks Connector Bridge.
Presented by the Philadelphia Water Department, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the PA Fish and Boat Commission, and the Schuylkill River Development Corporation, the Fishing Fest is a chance to enjoy the city’s waterfront, connect with the community, and maybe even hook a story-worthy fish.
Registration is encouraged for those planning to attend and can be done at water.phila.gov/drops/philly-fun-fishing-fest-2025/
