Oyster House is bringing back ShuckFest on Sunday, May 31, from noon to 3:30 p.m.

This year’s festival is especially significant as the iconic seafood restaurant celebrates 50 years in business, fresh off being named a James Beard Foundation America’s Classic Award winner earlier this year.

For the anniversary edition, the event heads back outdoors to the 1500 block of Sansom Street, transforming the area into a lively oyster-filled celebration featuring local oyster farmers, live music, cocktails, and one of the city’s most entertaining culinary competitions.

ShuckFest highlights the region’s oyster industry by bringing together 12 New Jersey-based oyster growers for tastings and meet-and-greets throughout the afternoon.

Guests can expect:

  • Oyster tastings from regional growers
  • Oyster shucking tutorials from experts
  • Live music from Gypsy Wisdom
  • Face painting and family-friendly activities
  • Festival food specials and cocktails
  • A special anniversary cake celebrating Oyster House’s 50th year

The event is designed to celebrate both the restaurant’s legacy and the people behind the local oyster industry.

One of the festival’s main attractions is the annual oyster shucking competition, where seafood professionals battle it out for a cash prize.

Contestants will be judged on:

  • Speed
  • Accuracy
  • Presentation

Penalties will be given for broken shells, damaged oysters, or improperly detached oysters.

This year’s judging panel includes the team behind the Delicious City Philly Podcast:

  • Eli Kulp
  • Marisa Magnatta
  • Dave Wesolowski

Proceeds from ShuckFest will benefit two local environmental nonprofits:

  • Partnership for the Delaware Estuary Inc.
  • The Jetty Rock Foundation
