Philadelphia International Airport Will Attempt to Set the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Line of Cheesesteaks”
Philly is preparing to make history — one cheesesteak at a time.
On Tuesday, March 24, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the “Longest Line of Cheesesteaks” as part of its annual PHL Cheesesteak Week celebration. The record attempt will take place from 9 a.m. to Noon inside the Terminal B/C Connector, transforming the airport into a showcase of one of the city’s most iconic culinary traditions.
The ambitious undertaking is organized by PHL Food & Shops, the airport’s award-winning concessions program, in partnership with the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation. Together, they will assemble a continuous, concourse-spanning line of authentic Philadelphia cheesesteaks prepared by some of the city’s most recognizable sandwich destinations.
Restaurants throughout the airport that serve cheesesteaks — including Chickie’s & Pete’s, Geno’s Steaks, Jim’s South St. Famous Cheesesteaks, Passyunk Steaks, Tony Luke’s, and others — will collaborate to build the massive line of sandwiches. Each cheesesteak will meet the official criteria defined by Guinness World Records, ensuring the attempt meets the strict requirements for certification.
If successful, the line of cheesesteaks will stretch across the B/C Connector, demonstrating why PHL boasts more restaurants serving cheesesteaks under one roof than any other single location in Philadelphia.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator will be on-site during the event to oversee the process, verify the final count, and determine whether the airport has successfully achieved the historic milestone.
Preparation for the attempt will begin early in the morning. Cheesesteak cooking and assembly will start around 7 a.m., with media arriving at 9 a.m. to capture the spectacle. The official adjudication is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the announcement of the record outcome shortly after.
Once the results are revealed, the cheesesteaks used in the attempt won’t go to waste. They will be distributed to passengers, participants, and guests in the airport, with any remaining sandwiches donated to Philabundance, helping ensure the celebration benefits the community as well.
The record attempt serves as the centerpiece of PHL Cheesesteak Week, which runs March 23 through March 29. Throughout the week, travelers passing through the airport can enjoy exclusive cheesesteak-inspired dishes, special meal deals, and interactive activations celebrating the sandwich that has become synonymous with Philadelphia.
From legendary steak shops to creative culinary twists, Cheesesteak Week highlights the depth and diversity of the city’s beloved signature sandwich — all within the bustling hub of Philadelphia International Airport.
For travelers and cheesesteak lovers alike, this National Cheesesteak Day event promises a uniquely Philly moment — and possibly a new world record.
