Move over Mike Trout because we’re going to need more room to back up the Brinks truck that is carrying Patrick Mahomes money.  NFL insider Adam Schefter broke the news that the Chiefs’ guns slinger has agreed to a 10-year contract extension that will pay out $427.6 million.

New Jersey native Mike Trout has been holding on to the top spot after signing a 2019 deal with the Angels for $426.5 over 12 years. Patrick Mahomes had two years and $27.6 million left on his existing deal — $2.8 million this year, $24.8 million in 2021. The 10-year extension keeps him under contract for the next 12 seasons.

Over the past 2 seasons Patrick Mahomes ranked 1st in pass TD (89), 1st in pass yards (10,602), 1st in wins (27), 1st in total QBR (79) and 1st in yards per att. (8.5). Oh yea and he also has a little hardware to go along with this stats including a league MVP and Super Bowl MVP award. During his MVP season in 2018 Mahomes threw 50 touchdown passes and threw for 5,097 yards in his first full season as a starter.  For the cherry on top Mahomes also graced the 2020 Madden cover.

The Chiefs traded up in the 2017 draft to select Mahomes with the 10th overall pick. He sat out for most of his rookie season behind starter Alex Smith, only starting in the season finale when the Chiefs rested their starters.

Now with his great great great great grandkids set for life, we’ll see what more Mahomes will do to add to his NFL legacy.
