Next Year The Turnpike Will Dish Out 45% Surcharges for Non-EZ Pass Riders!
If you still refuse to sign-up for EZ Pass you better start learning the local routes because the turnpike is looking to tap your wallet. Turnpike officials just announced that they will be dishing out a 45% surcharge for non-EZ Pass users who’s tolls are mail based (toll-by-plate). For everyone else you’re not safe either. Expect to see a 6% increase early next year if you want to ride the turnpike. Both rates go into effect January 3, 2021.
Officials stated that the increase reflects “the costs of collections for this tolling method.” So for those going through tolls and expect to to continue to pay the same as a regular toll, think again. However, if you do receive an invoice from the turnpike they will give you an option to pay a lower rate if you sign-up for an EZ-Pass.
Currently the turnpike is operating on a cashless basis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 500 turnpike works have been laid off, leaving the turnpike to EZ-Pass riders and toll-by-plate.
