New Urban Winery “Mural City Cellars” is Coming to Kensington
It may not be Sonoma Valley but a new winery is opening up in Kensington that will attract wine lovers. The all-new Mural City Cellars (2011 Amber St.) will open in January and will feature their own signature wines along with wine made in the Philadelphia Region.
All grapes are sourced and grown within a 300 mile radius of the winery. Vineyards will include TASO Vineyards (NJ), Corsiglia Vineyards (NJ) and Casalon Farms (NJ), “We harvest the grapes by hand alongside the farmers, do manual punchdowns, hand-crush using a hydraulic basket press imported from Italy, and then hand-bottle. The wine we produce, as well as a MCC-curated selection of Community Supported Winery (CSW) wines, will be available in our tasting room and distributed hyper-locally.” Beer and light food will also be served for tours and tastings.
Owners Nicholas Ducos and Francesca Galarus created Mural City Cellars with comfort and a easy going vibe. “We love Philly’s neighborhood breweries, and our vision for MCC brings wine to the community with a similar vibe: in a casual, fun environment where guests can taste multiple local wines and bring their favorite bottles home,” their website reads.
In addition to selling wine at their winery, Mural City Cellars will also offer a monthly memberships to the Community Supported Winery where members can pay in advance and received two bottles per month. Membership will also include discounts and virtual events. To give back to the community Mural City Cellars is also looking to donate 15% of their proceeds from each membership sold to the Philadelphia Mural Arts Project.
