Music Icons Gamble & Huff Will Release an Exclusive Vinyl & CD Box Set to Celebrate 50 Years of “Philly Soul”
The O’Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, Patti Labelle, Billy Paul, Lou Rawls, these are just some of the timeless musicians that released records under Philadelphia International Records. Considered the new age East Coast Motown, Gamble & Huff were cranking out platinum and gold records from their S. Broad St. studio. Founded by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff in 1971, Philadelphia International Records is now poised to release an exclusive 50th anniversary vinyl box set as well as several CD sets to commemorate 50 years of hit making.
To kick-off the Philly Soul releases, Kenneth Gamble will debut and host a Sonos radio station on February 24th called “The Sound of Philadelphia.” To give us a taste of what’s to come, Philadelphia International Records released a new remixed version of McFadden and Whitehead’s classic hit “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now.”
Although no exact dates were given for either box set releases, soul music lovers can expect the first CD set “Get on the Soul Train” in April. This set will feature albums by Bill Paul and the Intruders and The O’Jays as well as other various artists, all of which will be remastered. As an added bonus fans will also receive a 48-page hardcover book and giant poster.
Gamble and Huff linked up with Vinyl Me to deliver their sweet tunes for vinyl lovers,. This set will be dubbed “Anthology: The Story of Philadelphia International” and will include eight remastered albums along with liner notes and exclusive interviews. The anniversary campaign is being conducted in collaboration with Sony Music, Warner Chappell Music, and Legacy Recordings.
