Mixteca Is Coming to Kensington Featuring Contemporary Mexican Cuisine and a Tequila-Centered Cocktail Program
A new neighborhood agave bar and restaurant is headed to Kensington. Mixteca, from hospitality veterans Jeff Bell and Victor Lopez, will open at 2113 East York Street, bringing a concept centered on agave spirits and contemporary Mexican cuisine to the neighborhood.
At the heart of Mixteca will be a cocktail program built around tequila, mezcal, bacanora and raicilla. The bar will offer ten variations on the margarita alongside agave-based interpretations of other classic cocktails, plus an extensive selection of zero-proof drinks for guests looking to skip the alcohol without skipping the flavor.
The food menu will lean into contemporary Mexican cooking, anchored by handmade corn tortillas. Among the dishes planned for the menu are a hamachi ceviche, Yucatán-style shrimp tacos, and a family-style pork al pastor meant for sharing.
The roughly 100-seat space is designed to accommodate a range of experiences, with a bar, lounge, outdoor patio and a private mezzanine. Once open, Mixteca plans to roll out additional programming, including a margarita-focused happy hour and community events, as it settles into its new East Kensington home.
