Friday, April 16th will mark the beginning of a new partnership between Lil Pop Shop and Weckerly’s Ice Cream. Guests will now be able to enjoy a variety of scoops and other ice cream treats from Weckerly’s at Lil Pop Shop’s original space in West Philadelphia (265 S. 44th St.). Over in Fishtown, Weckerly’s flagship shop (9 W. Girard Ave.) will offer a selection of Lil Pop Shop’s small-batch fruit and cream based-pops. To celebrate this new partnership, Lil Pop Shop’s and Weckerly’s collaborated to create the Popalong Bar, a special vanilla ice cream popsicle bar dipped in a mix of dark chocolate and crispy rice. The Popalong Bar will debut at Lil Pop Shop beginning on Friday, April 16th and will be available through the weekend.

“It’s been an extremely challenging year for small businesses, but the time has allowed me to regain focus on what I want my shop to be for the community in which I live,” says co-owner Jeanne Chang, who opened Lil Pop Shop in West Philadelphia in spring 2012. She continued, “Now more than ever is the time for small businesses to support one another, so I’m thrilled to partner with Weckerly’s and provide this great neighborhood with pops, pies, and now amazing ice cream!”

The partnership between Lil Pop Shop and Weckerly’s began to take shape during the pandemic. Prior to that, Chang built a friendship with Jen Weckerle and Andy Satinsky, the husband-and-wife owners of Weckerly’s. They discovered they share many of the same values about running their businesses and creating their products, including using only the freshest, local ingredients available, sourced from local purveyors. In March 2020, they joined forces with other small Philadelphia-based businesses to create Joy Box, a customizable care package of local artisan goods (currently on hiatus). While working alongside each other on Joy Box, the trio began discussing how their companies could work together on a greater level.

“For us, coming to West Philly is a bit of a homecoming because Andy and I started making our ice cream in the kitchen at Green Line Café, located a few blocks from Jeanne’s shop” says Jen Weckerle, a trained pastry chef who, along with her husband launched Weckerly’s in fall 2012.

The new partnership also marks nine years since Chang opened the doors to Lil Pop Shop in West Philly. She felt it was the perfect time for a refresh, including a new logo and interior upgrades to enliven the space and make room for Weckerly’s. Guests may enjoy a new takeout window, plus a streamlined layout, new tile flooring and fresh coats of paint.

Lil Pop Shop in West Philadelphia is open Tuesday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information about Lil Pop Shop or to preorder for pickup,
