Distrito, the authentic Mexican restaurant in University City from Iron Chef and James Beard Award-winner Jose Garces, reopens to offer Philadelphians exciting new food and beverage options for takeout and delivery as well as a brand new outdoor dining patio designed to accommodate 80 socially distant patrons, coming this month.

Distrito’s new takeout & delivery options expand on the original menu’s beloved authenticity to include innovative items that play on Chef Garces’ signature style of vibrant Latin flair. The most notable new dishes are a selection of Tortas, or Mexican sandwiches, such as: ‘Jefe Burger’, Distrito’s first-ever burger, complete with Chipotle Thousand Island dressing and Oaxaca Cheese; the Avocado Torta with Black Beans, Queso Frito, Rajas, Watercress and Cilantro; the Mexican Fried Chicken Sandwich featuring Refried Beans, Avocado, & Poblano Ranch; and the Super Sonoran Dog, with two bacon-wrapped dogs with Chorizo & Salsa Rosa.

For even more at-home fun, Distrito’s new menu includes Build-Your-Own Taco Kits designed for parties of two, four or six, complete with all the fixings to replicate your favorite Distrito tacos. Kits include the restaurants’ fresh, handmade tortillas and a wide selection of proteins, including Adobo Chicken, Chipotle Chicken, Braised Beef, Carne Asada, Pork Carnitas and Tofu Chorizo.

In addition to takeout & delivery, Distrito is excited to reopen for in-person dining with a new patio that offers Philadelphians a lively ambiance in a comfortable setting. The dynamic outdoor patio is accessible from Chestnut Street, with seating that wraps around the side of the restaurant to create an urban oasis that replicates Distrito’s iconic vibrancy complete with market lights, eclectic seating, lush landscaping and plenty of space for a highly enjoyable outdoor dining experience, while maintaining proper safety and social distancing guidelines.

Additional new menu items for to-go and outdoor dining include Signature Tacos of Fresh Fish, Pork Belly, Shrimp & Chorizo and Mexican Fried Chicken, which include three tacos per order rather than standard one taco per order, Mushroom Huarache, Hot Queso Nachos, Shrimp Ceviche and more.

Distrito’s drink offerings include signature favorites such as Red Sangria and the Distrito Margarita and have added even more choices. Patrons ordering takeout have the choice of single-serve or four-serving to-go cocktails such as the Paloma, Rum Punch and more. Mexican beers including Tecate, Corona, Pacifico and Modelo Especial will be offered in individual bottles, cans or in six-packs, and sparkling wines, rosé and red & white wine varieties will be offered in cans.

As an extension of its new takeout and delivery menu, Distrito will introduce new catering options, creating an ideal option for local businesses whose employees have returned to the workplace and are looking for a safe, convenient and delicious way to provide lunch for its workforce. With 48-hour notice, offerings include a variety of packages for six, eight, or 10+ people. Additional catering package options include a make-your-own Taco Bar, make-your-own Chilango Bowls, a Burrito & Enchilada Family Package and The Mexican Fiesta Package which includes everything from chips and guacamole to salads, tacos & burritos and more. Several family-style appetizers and desserts are available including Chips & Salsa, the Little Gem Salad with radish, Chicharrones, chives, in a poblano & buttermilk vinaigrette, Tortilla Soup, Caramel or Chocolate Churros, and more.

The new menu was developed as a result of a creative collaboration between Chef Jose Garces and Chef de Cuisine Frank Klemowitz, who oversees the kitchen and all culinary aspects of Distrito, while David Rodriguez oversees all day-to-day operations as the restaurant’s General Manager.
