“A Day of Play” Brings Board Games, Mahjong, Fitness Classes and Athletic Clinics to Broad Street
The Sporting Club at The Bellevue has partnered with Queen & Rook Game Cafe for “A Day of Play,” a three-hour afternoon of board games, mahjong, group fitness classes and athletic clinics. The event takes place Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at 224 South Broad Street (8th Floor).
Organizers describe the event as a “play mashup” that combines games and movement. It is open to The Sporting Club at The Bellvue members, guests and friends of Queen & Rook. Everyone must RSVP individually, and the event is limited to ages 16 and older. Non-members will receive a waiver in advance to speed up registration. Snacks will be provided. Registration can be done here.
“This is an exciting partnership because it celebrates the many different ways we play, whether we’re challenging ourselves physically, engaging our minds, or connecting with others,” said Edward Garcia, owner of Queen & Rook Game Cafe. “It’s also a great opportunity to bring different communities together and introduce new audiences to experiences they might not have tried before.”
Queen & Rook will run the game programming across several spaces:
- The Library: Mahjong with an instructor
- The Club Room: Board and tabletop games, with Queen & Rook facilitators
- The terrace: Oversized versions of Connect 4, Clue and Jenga
Group fitness classes, each with a playful twist, will be held in the Sporting Club’s studios and led by the following instructors:
- Jacques Mitchell: Boxing
- Adolph Sims: Cycling
- Mia Gitzes: Yoga
- Makeda McGill: Barre
- Gerald Munson: Turf
- Josiah Jacoby: TRX
Mini athletic clinics will take place on the courts, led by:
- Brewster “Brew” Ward III: Basketball
- Christian Cabral: Pickleball
- Sean Castineira: Golf
