John’s Roast Pork Wins Truff’s Competition for The Best Cheesesteak in Philly
The votes are in and there will not be a recount. That’s right, Truff’s $10,000 prize and bragging rights for Philly’s Best Cheesesteak was awarded to John’s Roast Pork. In business for over 90 years, John’s Roast Pork (14 Snyder Ave.) has a huge loyal following and has always been in the conversation for the best steaks in the city.
Truff which makes truffled-based sauce stirred the pot this month by introducing the competition where locals had a chance to cast their votes. When we first announced the competition John’s was leading the pack with Delessandro’s, Jay’s Joint, Jim’s and Angelo’s in the hunt.
Owner John Bucci told 6abc that this award is his crown moment. “It’s the age-old question in Philadelphia, “who makes the best cheesesteaks? Listen, always in the beginning I just always wanted to be in the conversation.” Bucci who is also a James Beard recipient is one fo the few cheesesteak spots that refuse to serve cheese wiz with their steaks, which is a staple in many other popular spots. “They’re made individually for you. We only make small batches of 10 to 12 at a time and that’s why it takes longer. Our cheesesteaks take longer than any place,” Bucci added. This isn’t the only recognition John’s Roast Pork has recently received. Adam Sandler’s new movie “Hustle” also chose this South Philly institution to film a scene as well.
