Jimmy G’s on Broad Street Will Be Transformed Into Luxury Apartments
For 10 years Jimmy G’s Steaks served up steaks at the corner of Broad and Ridge. The owners wanted to bring authentic steaks to Broad Street, however in 2021 the walk-up steak stand suddenly closed its doors and has remained empty ever since.
Now, the the future plans for this space has finally been revealed. Philly Capital Group, which is a real estate investment and development firm, posted on social media the plans to transform this space into luxury apartments.
“Big plans ahead for the historic intersection of Broad & Ridge. Back in the 1920s before the Fairmount-Broad Subway Station was even built, the corner was home to a local watering hole called McDermott’s Tavern. The corner has lived many lives since then. Most recently, it was occupied by Jimmy G’s Steaks which closed in 2021.
UP NEXT, The McDermott. A ground-up construction 18,000 sqft mixed-use building featuring 20 residential apartments and 1,400 sqft of sub-dividable street-level retail which will be completed in Summer 2023.
Amenities are to include elevator service, digital entry and package management, parking spaces, and a green-roof community outdoor space. The McDermott will be located equidistant between Temple University and City Hall sitting directly atop the Fairmount-Broad Subway Station with commute times to Center City in just minutes.
Over the past decade, the bustling intersection at Broad and Ridge has seen substantial development, including renovations to the historic Divine Lorraine Hotel, an Aldi supermarket, and luxury apartment towers. Just blocks away, The Met Philly opera house, underwent substantial redevelopment and re-opened in 2018. Surrounding blocks have filled up with restaurants, cafes, breweries, bars, and stunning murals as a result of the Spring Arts District’s rotating outdoor gallery.” states the post.
The new luxury apartments are scheduled to open in 2023.
