An Indoor Mexican Beer Garden Called Mission is Coming to Rittenhouse
If you ever frequented Sansom St. between 15th and 16th over the last few years then you know how much of a hotbed this strip is in regards to beer and drinking. Along this narrow street you’ll find everything from the iconic dive bar Oscar’s to the chic night club Rumor to the broey Ladder 15. You’ll also know that Nodding Head Brewery is unfortunately gone(1516 Sansom). However, the neighbors at Oyster House have come-up with some big plans for the former center city micro-brewery. Mission, which is being described as a Mexican inspired indoor beer garden is slated to open sometime this summer (sorry to official date has been set yet).
Here’s what we can tell you about this intriguing concept bar. The space itself is being overhauled and will sport original exposed brick walls, new skylights, resurfaced hardwood floors and several classic bar games including shuffleboard and foosball. The indoor beer garden will be outfitted with an array of seating options including picnic tables, bar stools, traditional chairs and banquettes to accommodate up to 160 guests.
Oyster House owner Sam Mink is spearheading Mission and has enlisted the help of his general manager Daniel McLaughlin as well as his chef Brett Naylor. These three amigos will look to fuse Mexican flair with the city’s unquenchable thirst for tasty beer. When it does finally open, Mission will serve dinner starting at 5 pm (as well as their Happy Hour). Mission also plans to cash in on the brunch craze on the weekends. Stay tuned for more updates.
