Grease the Poles: The Red Bull Championship Run Returns to Spruce Street Harbor Park at Penn’s Landing

After a high-energy debut last summer, Red Bull Championship Run is back in Philly — and so are the greased poles. On Saturday, July 12, the Estuary at Spruce Street Harbor Park at Penn’s Landing will once again transform into a spectacle of speed, balance, and sheer determination as 120 participants sprint up a greased telephone pole in a race to capture the flag and advance to the next round. Only five competitors managed to reach the flag in last year’s inaugural competition — will more break through in 2025?

The format is simple: grab the flag and advance to the next round. Fail to grab the flag and you’ll be relegated to the sidelines, watching in anticipation for your chance at redemption next year. It’s a test of speed, skill and sheer determination.

Last year’s event drew huge crowds and major energy, featuring appearances by Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl champion Beau Allen, 76ers mascot Franklin, Phillies DJ and Flyers in-arena host Mr. Hollywood, and Flyers anthem singer Lauren Hart. This year promises to bring even more excitement and hometown pride.

Registration is $29 and open now at redbull.com/us-en/events/red-bull-championship-run/.

Whether you’re competing or just watching, it’s free to attend and guaranteed to be unforgettable.
