What prompted you to start a career in fashion? (What was your “Ah ha” moment)
I’ve always loved writing and always loved the shop. I pursued a career in journalism after graduating from college, when I landed an internship at Upscale Magazine. I thought I wanted to write about news and politics, but there was only one opening in the fashion department. So I took it, and fell in love!
As a speaker and event curator what are your goals when you’re either speaking or hosting an event? (what are you looking to accomplish)
Fashion can be a lonely, cold, cruel industry. My goal is for everyone to feel welcomed, valued, uplifted, and encouraged by the spirit, energy, and mission of our events.
If you could only wear one fashion designer for the rest of your life who/what brand would it be and why?
Balmain. I love classics pieces with a kick—traditional clothes with a saucy edge. Balmain embodies that. If I could have a Balmain blazer in every color, I would.
As for your upcoming event, tell us briefly what attendees can expect?
Fashion, fun, food, and networking at its finest.
What separates your events from other fashion speakers/curators?
As far as I know, most fashion events are invite only. You have to be “on the list.” Even people who want to go to fashion week can’t experience shows first hand—they can’t even buy a ticket to a show! We make fashion and industry knowledge accessible to everyone.
What are your thoughts on the current Philly fashion scene? What are some things Philly in general could do to improve upon its influence in fashion?
I think Philly has lots and lots of great design talent. I am encouraged by all the designers I know and love, including Marq by Marquette, Alnika Lovello, Milano di Rouge, Iris Barber Bonner, Shavonne Deann, and many more.
Rank your talents from most favorite to do to least. Author, Designer, Speaker, Event Curator
Author, event curator, and Speaker. I am not a designer.
How has Harvard helped you with fashion?
Harvard is a wonderful school. There, I learned the value of hard work, integrity, and persistence.
In 3 sentences or lest, why should folks attend the event?
Amazing networking, great food, thought provoking conversation, nonstop style, and fun.
