Eagles Star Cooper Dejean Set to Appear at 3rd Annual Red Bull Championship Run
Eagles standout Cooper Dejean will make an appearance at the third annual Red Bull Championship Run, organizers announced. The Super Bowl champion cornerback joins a growing list of local sports personalities lending their star power to the waterfront event.
Former 76ers arena announcer Matt Cord will also be on hand, adding to the roster of familiar Philly sports voices set to take part in the festivities.
Red Bull Championship Run returns to Penn’s Landing for a third consecutive year on Saturday, August 29, running from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Spruce Harbor Street Park.
The competition challenges athletes to race up a greased telephone pole in pursuit of a flag mounted at the top, with only those who successfully grab it advancing to the next round. Anyone who fails to capture the flag is eliminated. Organizers bill the event as a true test of speed, balance, and determination — part athletic showcase, part spectacle.
A Growing Philly Tradition
Over its first two years, the event built a reputation for drawing notable figures from the city’s sports scene, including Eagles Super Bowl champions Brandon Graham and Beau Allen, along with 76ers alum Marc Jackson.
This year’s lineup continues that tradition. Alongside Cooper Dejean and Matt Cord, fans can expect appearances from:
- 76ers DJ Ghost and mascot Franklin
- Flyers in-arena host Mr. Hollywood DJ
- Red Bull athlete Guenther Oka
Adding to the pregame atmosphere, 76ers national anthem singer Joi is scheduled to open the event with a performance of the national anthem.
Organizers noted that additional participants will be announced in the coming weeks, suggesting the star-studded guest list may grow even further before the event kicks off.
Now in its third year, the Red Bull Championship Run has cemented itself as a summer staple along Philadelphia’s waterfront. According to organizers, last year’s event drew approximately 2,000 spectators to Penn’s Landing — a number expected to be matched or exceeded this year given the star power on display.
Fans looking to catch the action, meet local sports personalities, and watch competitors battle it out on the greased pole can head to Spruce Harbor Street Park on August 29.
