For many of us that enjoy the nightlife, it’s a great feeling knowing that some of our favorite spots are reopening. However, the pandemic definitely took its toll on many venues.  Some have changed up, moved, and shut down.  However, one popular spot did a very smart pivot and now offers partygoers the option of engaging with nightlife in person or online.  Warehouse on Watts’ “WOWtv” lets viewers watch DJ sets or check out live events that are happening in real time.

Launched on April 10th, WOWtv which streams on Twtich and is the brainchild of Justin “Expo” Schliep along with WOW owner Gavin DiRusso, operator Meg Bassett, DJ/producers Rebel Foster and Jabair  as well as visual artist Lotits. The first stream featured local DJs, DJ Expo, Cosmo Baker, JaBair, Rebel Foster, DJ Royale, and Dirty South Joe. WOWtv streams non-stop 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with high-end digital cameras that lets viewers catch all the action.  WOWtv’s origins began as the group of DJs used the space to broadcast their sets on Twitch and Facebook for all those partygoers quarantined during the pandemic. Now it has morphed into Philly’s only 24/7 entertainment streaming channel.

“WOW being the DIY space for creatives like it is was just all the right elements to foster this idea. WOWtv is what brought Watts Studio and the WOW venue together to be an all out production house. Shortly after our first stream we got the attention of not only all of the artists and DJs in our community but also lighting and visual directors that were normally on tour and now bored at home looking for a creative outlet. It just continued to grow from there and now that we got some support from brands and investors we have all top of the line equipment. We started streaming from our camera phones and now we film in 6k with cinema cameras. We’ve had live artist performances, virtual festivals with bands, singers, and DJs, stand up comedy shows. We’re actually in the process of filming a sketch comedy show with a really dope well known comedy troupe in Philly,” DJ Expo explains.

Since its inception, WOWtv has been growing steadily. Aside from the various DJ sets, all events that take place at WOW are streamed live on WOWtv.  So that event you can’t make it to for whatever reason, you can drop in live on your computer or Phone and catch all the action. “It’s like a radio station but the fact that you can watch it, is a plus. There’s always people watching even at 4am and it’s been growing on a worldwide scale. Anywhere from 30-200 viewers at all times. The most viewers we’ve had at one time was somewhere in the 500s,” DJ Expo adds.

This innovative platform that started off as just a means to keep quarantined folks entertained has now become a fixture and the folks at WOW have made it a permanent platform.  As for what someone new to WOWtv can expect, Expo explains, “Philly has the best artists, musicians, DJs, food, and people and we’re fucking here for it, just like y’all!”
