In a recent SEPTA fare proposal, a new policy for children will be a joy to parents and guardians throughout the city.  SEPTA has revised its fare proposal to allow children under 12 to ride for free.

However, those children must be accompanied by a fare-paying adult in order to ride for free.  The new policy applies to all SEPTA lines. This revision comes off the heels of SEPTA’s previous proposal which offered children 5 to 11 to ride for $1.  Currently children pay the full $2.50 fare.

In addition, SEPTA is also extending the free transfer window.  Currently riders must use their SEPTA Key Travel Wallet within 90 minutes to take advantage of free transfers.  Under the new revision the window will be extended for a full two hours.

In regards to the proposal, SEPTA General Manager Leslie Richards stated, “These changes will help us better meet the needs of our low-income communities and traveling families.”

SEPTA’s Budget, Panning and Information Technology Committee already gave the new proposal the thumbs up.  Now it’s up to the full board to give the final okay next Thursday.  If the board approves, the changes will be effective July 1st.
