Betsy Ross House Brings Back the Adult-Only ‘Tipsy History: A Love Story,’ Featuring a Candlelit Evening With Cocktails & Special Tours

Valentine’s Day gets a historical—and spirited—twist as the Betsy Ross House welcomes back its popular after-hours experience, Tipsy History: A Love Story, on Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14. This 21+ program invites guests to step into an intimate, candlelit evening where romance, rebellion, and a handcrafted cocktail come together inside one of Philly’s most iconic homes.

Designed as one of the city’s most unique date nights, Tipsy History places visitors face-to-face with a young Betsy Ross just after her elopement with John Ross. Through live interpretation, guests hear a love story shaped by risk and resilience, as Betsy grapples with the fallout of marrying outside her Quaker faith and the difficult choice between family expectations and true love.

After the opening encounter, guests continue through the house on a special love-themed guided tour, learning more about Betsy’s life and relationships while sipping a handcrafted “love potion” cocktail included with admission. The immersive experience blends storytelling, history, and a celebratory drink—making it ideal for couples, friends, or anyone looking for a memorable Valentine’s outing.

Each tour lasts approximately 75 minutes, with start times at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 PM. Tickets are $27 and must be purchased in advance. Guests are encouraged to arrive 10–15 minutes early to check in and order their cocktail before the program begins promptly.

Tipsy History: A Love Story offers a playful, thought-provoking way to toast Valentine’s Day—Philly style—inside a landmark where love once changed history.
