There’s something about being at the ground level when careers are ready to take off. Since our launch 3 years ago, we were fortunate enough to see careers blossom and bloom first hand.  However, it’s extra special when you are able to witness the same process on a national level.  Rapsody, is a North Carolinian rapper who is coming up under the wings of legendary hip hop figures Young Guru & 9th Wonder.  It was evident by her performance on the main stage at Made in America that we are witnessing a super star in the making.

Backed by the ultra talented Storm Troopers band, Rapsody performed rhythmic songs with razor sharp bars that had the crowd in awe.  Even from afar my team and I couldn’t help buy bop our heads to her spell bounding sound. Currently on Jamla Records (9th & Guru’s label), Rapsody is also under the umbrella or Roc Nation.  However, it wasn’t easy. Even though Guru is Jay’s right hand man and 9th comes with heavy clout, it took months of negations to make “JamRoc” happen.

With the paper work straightened out, Rapsody can focus on the task at hand.  Her new album entitled Laila’s Wisdom is set to drop September 22nd. Featuring the track “You Should Know” with hip hop icon Busta Rhymes, the record defies anything currently out.  Forget the tongue twisting raps you’re used to hearing from Bussa Bus, instead you’ll be pleasantly surprised by his silky smooth rapping laid over a smoothed out 9th Wonder Beat.

All in all, if you were ever wondering what happened to “true hip hop,” just know that it has been resting in the hands of 9th Wonder, the savviness of Young Guru, and the bars of Rapsody.  This trio is out to capture the crown.
