After 128 Years The Reading Terminal Market is Turning to GoFundMe to Stay Open!
The Reading Terminal Market has been an iconic landmark in Philly for the last 128 years. It’s been a magnet for tourists and has even been featured in a variety of movies and TV shows. However, now that tourism has slowed down and production crews aren’t as busy, The Reading Terminal Market is turning to crowdfunding to stay open.
With 80 family-owned vendors, The Reading Terminal which operates as a non-profit, is much more than just a place to grab food, it’s a thriving community of entrepreneurs that have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The recently launched GoFundME campaign seeks to maintain the building and its vendors.
The GoFundMe campaign “Help the Historic Reading Terminal Market” is currently just shy of $45,000 with a goal of $250,000. See their Message blow. Click Here to Donate.
For 128 years, the Reading Terminal Market has been one of Philadelphia’s most beloved icons. Home to nearly 80 independent mom and pop businesses under one roof, the Market is authentic, diverse and delicious— just like Philadelphia! Some of our stores have been in business for decades. Some are proudly owned by immigrants.
The Reading Terminal Market is the ultimate place to enjoy Philadelphia’s hometown flavors and is a registered 501 (c) 3 non profit organization. Contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Your donation receipt will be emailed to you from Go Fund Me Charity.
For decades, thousands of people a day have counted on the Reading Terminal Market— for fresh and local produce, meat, fish, cheese, baked goods and so much more. Thousands more rely on the Market for prepared food, either to eat on site or take home.
In March of this year, everything changed. The Market remained open, stocked and safe, ready for business and eager to serve you, but thousands of customers have been working from and sheltering at home, and have stopped coming to the Market to shop and dine. About 30% of the Market’s foot traffic comes from tourists, but conventions and events were canceled and people stopped visiting local friends and relatives or traveling for pleasure.
The Reading Terminal Market is open, ready for business and eager to serve you as we always have been. But we need your help to sustain our operations and support our recovery, so we can continue to provide for our community.
Donate to help Reading Terminal Market navigate these tough times. The Market is managed by a non-profit corporation and your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. We need your help to ensure that we can continue serving Philadelphia with fresh affordable local food. We need your help to keep serving Philadelphia’s favorite flavors to all our shoppers. We need your help to keep the lights on and power the building, keep the ventilation systems working, support the frequent cleaning and disinfecting that ensures that you will be safe when you come to the Market we all love
Some day, these hard times will be a memory. Help sustain the Market’s continued operation. Help us make sure that your beloved Market can serve our community for another 128 years.
