Philadelphia Brewing Co. Is Hosting a Special Honkytonk-Style Party With Two-Step lessons, Honkytonk DJ, Food Trucks & More.
Looking for a reason to drink some brews? Well, Philadelphia Brewing Co. (2440 Frankford Ave) just announced the return of revered brew, Harvest from the Hood, with a special Honkytonk-style party on Sunday, October 1, from 1-4 pm, at the Kensington brewery. During this beer, food, and music festival, guests can wet their whistles with pints of Philadelphia Brewing Co.’s full line up of beer — including the long-awaited seasonal return of Harvest from the Hood. The one-day festival is free of admission with food and drinks pay-as-you-go, and will feature food trucks, Two-Step dance lessons, a honkytonk DJ, and live music courtesy of local bands Country Gold Classics and Yonder Hearts at the indoor tasting rooms as well as outside in the adjacent beer garden and covered patio.
If you may remember, last year city workers ignored signs and destroyed last year’s crop of hops. “The hops are grown in a lot adjacent to the brewery, with a sign that says, “watch us grow,” clearly stating that the crops being grown are purposeful, and not weeds. Despite this, city workers came in and weed-whacked the area, decimating the entire crop. Nancy Barton, co-owner at Philadelphia Brewing Co., immediately began working to see what could be done to resolve the issue, as the seasonal ale brings the brewery tens of thousands of dollars in revenue. The incident received an enormous amount of attention from national outlets such as KYW News radio, Food & Wine, The Washington Post, Inside Hook — and Philadelphia Brewing Co. eventually received a settlement from the city,” states Philadelphia Brewing Co.
“Last year was disappointing to put it mildly, cultivating our hop garden for months only to have it be mistaken for weeds,” Barton commented. “We’re very excited by this year’s harvest, and I think our neighbors, friends and fans will be thrilled to taste this year’s batch of Harvest from the Hood.”
Harvest from the Hood, available in bottles, kegs, on tap, and for wholesale beginning October 1, is a wet-hopped ale brewed with hops grown at the brewery along with more hops grown by friends around Philadelphia, ringing it at a solid 9% ABV. The locally grown hops are hand-picked and used right away, giving this brew a juicy, bright hop flavor and aroma. This is a limited run beer while supplies last.
