So Two Philly Guys Created A Summer Camp for Adults Called Camp Bonfire
Camp Bonfire is excited to announce Brooklyn Brewery as its new sponsor for their second annual summer camp for adults, which is now accepting registrations for the 2016 camp.
Camp Bonfire Founders, Benjamin Camp (yes, his real name) and Jacob Winterstein, invite adults to Camp Bonfire’s June 2016 session, Friday, June 10th to Sunday, June 12th at Lake Owego, in the Poconos (1687 Route 6, Greeley). Cabins are divided by gender or there are co-ed cabins available. Parking will be available for a small fee for the weekend and organizers arranged affordable bus transportation from Philadelphia & New York. The camp is open to adults ages 21 and up and is located 2.5 hours from Philadelphia and New York City.
The creative duo met at summer camp. Benjamin was Jacob’s counselor and there is a funny story involving a camp wide prank and light bulbs. Camp Bonfire is where adults come to experience and celebrate the best parts of summer – and revisit this sense of fun and adventure. The camp features a picturesque lake, fun-loving counselors, capture the flag, canoeing, cabin living, archery — and the camp magic that makes a long weekend feel like a lifetime.
Camp Bonfire runs on a simple philosophy. “We’re not here to change you, fix you, cleanse you or transform you. We think you’re fantastic just the way you are,” said Jacob Winterstein “We’re here to be at summer camp, a place to relax, adventure and connect. We believe that great joy can be found in nature and each other. We’re sleeping in cabins. We’re singing in the dining hall. We’re having a dance party under the pavilion. There are creeks and paths and memories and new friendships that last a lifetime.”
Camp activities will include capture the Flag, zip-line, night hikes, lake swim, canoeing, kayaking, standing paddle board, climbing wall, glow frisbee, basketball, dodge ball, crew olympics, fire building, survival skills, soccer, archery, sing-a-longs, a talent show, plant prints, terrarium building, cooking, shelter building, lanterns, poetry, freestyle rapping, letter writing, friendship bracelets, music, charcoal drawing, dancing and more.
For those looking to truly escape, there will be plenty of chances to relax around bonfires, practice yoga, a daily rest hour, silent hikes, hammocks, free-time, sitting on the dock, beer by the fire, technology-free days, reading, journaling, cloud watching, and more.
“There’s magic that happens when people decide to eat together, board together, play together, adventure together and sing together,” said Benjamin Camp. “I remember more from weeks at summer camp than entire years. I’m looking forward to creating a long-weekend that feels like a month in all the right ways.”

ABOUT THE FOUNDERS:
Jacob Winterstein is a poet, performance artist and event producer. He is the co-host of The Pigeon Presents: The Philadelphia Poetry Slam, a Knight Arts and Best of Philly winner. He returns to the camp he grew up at every summer to serve as the poet in residence.
Benjamin Camp is an actor/creator/producer working in Philadelphia, and the Artistic Director of Team Sunshine Performance Corporation, whose works include 100 person battle scenes and 24-year performance dares. Benjamin has worked as a camp counselor and director. He got married at summer camp and yes, his last name really is Camp.
