If you’re looking for Mexican food with a twist, Cantina La Martina (2800 D St.) will be hosting their second annual 7 Moles Dinner featuring 7 talented local chefs, each giving their unique take on the classic dish. The 7 Moles Dinner is taking place on Wednesday, December 20th. The participating chefs include:

Each chef will be presenting their own mole course within the 7-course tasting menu. Guests attending will be served a complimentary ponche (hot cocktail made with guava, apples, sugar cane, and tequila) upon arrival and everyone will go home with a small gift by a Mexican artist along with a mole recipe card. Entertainment will be provided by Mauricio Valadez.

“This is our second year hosting 7 Moles — an idea that Chef Jennifer Zavala first came up with many years earlier — and we’re thrilled to have an amazing chef lineup once again this year!” says Chef/Owner Dionicio Jiménez. “7 Moles was created to highlight the meaning of holidays, family, food, and community. We are so grateful for everyone celebrating with us, from the chefs to the guests.”

Mole consists of many different ingredients, techniques, and passion. It can include everything from tomatillo, chocolate, animal crackers, almonds, garlic, plantains, ancho peppers, guajillo peppers, pasilla peppers, canela, pepitas and more! It often takes years of experience to master blending all the flavors together to create mole. Most towns in Mexico have only one cocinera in charge of leading the process and combining the mole ingredients. Just one mole can take days and even weeks to make, which is why it is specifically made for celebrations. All of this as well as the incredible chef talent involved is what makes Cantina La Martina’s 7 Moles so special.

There are two seating times available, one at 5pm and one at 8:30pm. The event will take place in the heated tent on the outdoor patio.

The menu is priced at $150 per person (tax, gratuity, and beverages are additional). Tickets are required and can be purchased at exploretock.com/cantinalamartina

A portion of proceeds will be donated to McPherson Square Library in Kensington to create a food pantry. There will be no regular dinner service the evening of the event. This event is reservation only, and no walk-ins will be permitted.
