5 Years After Its Big Opening, Wawa On S. Broad St. Closes For Good!
After five years it looks like the Wawa at 201 S. Broad St. has closed its doors for good. The letters have been taken down and the store remains boarded up.
Wawa is citing the pandemic for the closure as officials took down the prominent Wawa sign down and carted away the letters, one at a time. Part of their official statement read, “Due to the impact from the pandemic coupled with some operational uncertainties of today, our long-term plans for this store are no longer viable.” Although, it was placed strategically for convenience the store proved to be more of a nuisance to Center City residents and visitors alike.
Back in 2018 the store changed from 24 hours to structured hours due to the frequent criminal activities that took place including two guests being stabbed. In addition loitering became a big issue as well for the S. Broad St. location. Management took away the seating inside the stores and posted signs limiting the time guests could use the counter space for dining in.
No word yet on what the current location will be next. We will keep you posted with more information.
