Nerd Nite

Nerd Nite is a monthly café held in more than 75 cities across the globe. For more than three years, Philadelphia has taken part in this monthly lecture event where bookworms, geeks, and gurus gather for drinks in a fun, casual atmosphere. The event strives for a relaxed, nerd-tastic vibe. It’s sometimes about comics or history, architecture or food, movie posters or even science—and that’s where the Academy comes in. You’ll hear from some of our geekiest, most lovable staff and scientists, and you’ll definitely emerge with something remarkable or bizarre to share. The unofficial tagline is, “It’s like the Discovery Channel –with beer!”
First Friday Carnival

Bem-vindos! We’re heating up February’s First Friday at the Barnes Carnaval-style, with samba dancers and capoeira performers. Feel the energy of Brazil through live performances merging dance, rhythm, and martial arts. Unwind with cocktails and after-hours access to the collection. Includes an eye-opening short talk on our African collection. In partnership with Brazilian Day Philadelphia.
LEGO Brick Masterpieces

Explore the intersection of art and science in this unforgettable display of LEGO® brick masterpieces! See this familiar toy transformed into amazing works of art in the special exhibition, The Art of the Brick. In this whimsical and awe-inspiring exhibit, you’ll marvel at more than 70 one-of-a-kind LEGO toy sculptures by contemporary artist Nathan Sawaya including reproductions of world-famous works such as the Venus de Milo and Van Gogh’s Starry Night as well as original pieces including a 20-foot-long T. Rex dinosaur skeleton and a giant LEGO brick skull!
