The Three-Day 9th Annual Cannabis Opportunities Conference Is Happening, Featuring Panels, Comedy Shows, Expo & More
The Diasporic Alliance for Cannabis Opportunities (DACO) will present its 9th Annual Cannabis Opportunities Conference during Black Cannabis Week, taking place September 25–27 in Philadelphia. The three-day event will bring together policymakers, entrepreneurs, students and advocates for programming focused on policy, workforce development, scholarships, record-clearing resources and community healing.
Held under the theme “Rising in Joy, Rooted in Resilience, Building What’s Next,” the conference is designed to go beyond a traditional industry gathering, addressing issues including jobs, business ownership, criminal records, education, policy, health, access to capital and generational wealth as they relate to Philadelphia families and communities.
Black Cannabis Week was founded to address the gap between rapidly developing economic opportunities in the cannabis industry and communities that have historically been excluded from them. The Philadelphia-based platform brings together policy, economic mobility, workforce development, entrepreneurship, restorative justice, education, wellness and culture under a single umbrella.
Signature initiatives associated with the platform include:
- NOVA Future Leaders Scholarships
- Expungement & Record Clearing Clinic
- Pull-Up & Pitch entrepreneurship initiative
- Workforce & Career Pavilion
- Research & Innovation Showcase
- Beyond the Record Initiative
- Community Marketplace
- Wellness programming
The conference is led by Dr. Brandi Hester-Harrell, Executive Producer of Black Cannabis Week, and Cherron Perry-Thomas, MBA, owner of Plant and People and founder of Black Cannabis Week and co-founder of DACO. The event will also include policymakers, business owners, advocates, educators, students, researchers, workforce-development leaders and community members.
