The Postmaster General is Cutting Costs So All Packages Are Being Delayed!
If you’re like me you look forward to seeing delivery trucks out of your window more than ice cream trucks. So if you’re wondering what’s up with the hold up on a recent purchase, the reason is because of cost cutting. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s imposed cost cutting efforts have delayed all packages a day or more.
These cost cutting efforts include the elimination of overtime for hundreds of thousands of postal workers. DeJoy stated that employees must adopt a “different mindset” to cope with the pandemic according to the Associated Press. Other changes include:
- The elimination of late deliveries
- Postal distribution centers will hold packages until the next day if they’re “running late”
The USPS is facing a grave budget crises due to the pandemic and states that if Congress doesn’t step in, they will run out of money by September. The Postal Services is citing a $4.5 billion loss for the quarter ending in March. According to AP, ” As many as 12,000 postal workers have fallen ill, with at least 64 fatalities, and the economic contraction has caused a dramatic drop in letter and other flat mail volumes. A spike in package deliveries that has buoyed the agency during the pandemic.”
