The PHS Pop Up Gardens Return to Manayunk and South Street This Weekend With Food, Drinks, Workshops, and a Sunday Garden Market
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) has officially announced the return of its PHS Pop Up Gardens, reopening for the 2026 season in Manayunk and South Street beginning Friday, March 13.
The Pop Up Gardens offer visitors a welcoming place to meet friends, enjoy food and drinks, and take part in hands-on activities throughout the warmer months.
Both locations will soft open on March 13 at noon (weather permitting), with a grand opening celebration planned for Friday, March 27. The gardens will remain open through late fall, providing Philadelphians with a seasonal oasis to relax, socialize, and celebrate the city’s love for green spaces.
For visitors who attended the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, the Pop Up Gardens offer a second life for many of the beautiful plants showcased during the event. Hundreds of plants and shrubs are relocated from the Flower Show exhibits to the Pop Up Gardens each year, continuing PHS’s commitment to sustainability while bringing fresh greenery into neighborhood spaces.
Proceeds from the Pop Up Gardens help support PHS’s year-round greening initiatives, which work to strengthen neighborhoods, increase access to fresh food, and improve community health and well-being throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
Both Pop Up Garden locations feature food and beverage menus from vegetarian and vegan options to comfort dishes. Guests can also enjoy cocktails, frozen drinks, wine, craft beer, and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Dog-friendly touches—including water bowls and treats—make it easy to bring four-legged friends along for the experience.
At the Pop Up Garden in Manayunk, the menu leans into shareable favorites and boardwalk-inspired classics reminiscent of a summer trip to the shore.
Snackable favorites include:
- Fried cauliflower
- Fried clams
- Pretzel bites
- Onion rings
- Nachos
- Loaded Sidewinder fries
For those looking for something more filling, guests can enjoy baskets of fried shrimp, fried chicken, fish and chips, and chicken kabobs, alongside lighter fare like the Summer Supper Salad and classic Caesar.
The South Street Pop Up Garden offers a globally inspired menu designed for tasting and sharing.
New highlights include:
- Sticky chai pretzel bites
- Jamaican jerk wings with pineapple and passionfruit chutney
- Tofu ricotta with lemon zest and pita
- White bean dip with garlic and rosemary olive oil
Guests can also enjoy dishes like chimichurri chicken skewers, a fried chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo, and plant-forward options such as grain bowls and summer salads.
Signature frozen cocktails also return with new seasonal creations including Mango Crush, Guava Limeade, Wild Flower Spritz, and Passion Punch, alongside classic favorites like the Gritty Margarita.
This year’s programming includes Monthly Rooted Workshops, inspired by the 2026 Philadelphia Flower Show theme “Rooted: Origins of American Gardening.” Each workshop explores different gardening traditions through hands-on experiences such as:
- Kokedama plant design
- Embroidery
- Pressed flower art
- Terrarium building
- Heirloom seed saving
- Live music on select nights
- Free jazz performances twice monthly at South Street
- Weekly karaoke nights in Manayunk
