Arguably the best hip hop album of all time, Illmatic is a crown jewel of rapper Nas and is a certified classic album in the culture. Now Queens native Nas will be coming to Philly to perform his masterpiece with the Philadelphia Orchestra providing the backdrop.
Nas:Illmatic: Live will take place July 25th at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts (5201 Parkside Ave.). Although Nas has performed Illmatic with an orchestra in the past and released the studio album Illmatic: Live from the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra, this marquee event will provide an experience for hip hop and classical music enthusiasts alike.
The Philadelphia Orchestra has done a great job with crossing over into pop culture, most notably with their movie series. However, this isn’t the first time the orchestra has collaborated with hip hop artists. Past concerts have included Thee Phantom and more recently West Philly’s own, Chill Moody.
Tickets to Illmatic: Live are on sale now and available at manncenter.org/events
