There’s no doubt that every industry has been impacted during the pandemic.  This especially rings true for the local entertainment industry. The Philadelphia Film Society which curates The Philadelphia Film Center, Roxy Theater and the Drive-In at the Navy Yard is now looking to the public for help to sustain their programing and endeavors.

Their Forward Fund has a current goal of $30,000 by next Sunday, which the Philadelphia Film Society will use to keep their programs running. “When you make a donation to the Forward Fund, you’ll be helping to sustain innovative programming platforms, such as the Drive-In at the Navy Yard or the upcoming hybrid Philadelphia Film Festival with most of its screenings available in-home through a state-of-the-art digital streaming platform, so that we can continue to bring you — and all Philadelphians — more curated classics and the latest in new studio releases in the weeks and months ahead,” their statement reads.

Their last program Drive-In at the Navy Yard attracted thousands of movie goers and was a huge success during the pandemic. Featuring local and international movies, attendees were able to enjoy movies while social distancing in their cars. This is just one of the many programs the film society hopes to keep going.

“Mounting such a project while navigating through the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is an expensive and challenging proposition. It is, however, one that the Film Society’s staff and board are resolute in sustaining in an effort to move forward through the uncertain times ahead, continuing the good work of our mission to provide Philadelphians with opportunities to be inspired, educated, challenged and entertained through film,” the organization added.

There’s no doubt that many turn to entertainment particularly moves as a comfort and mental escape during stressful times such as the pandemic.  Although, the indoor gathering restrictions are expected to ease first week of January and vaccines are on the way, there is still no definite timetable as to when theaters and entertainment venues will be able to operate at full capacity.
