The Original BYOB Holiday Lights Tour Returns and Riders Can Bring Ornaments to Decorate the Trolleys to Win Prizes
Philly’s most festive rolling tradition is back for another season of lights, laughter, and holiday cheer. The Original BYOB Holiday Lights Tour, created by Founding Footsteps, will once again take guests through the city’s most dazzling holiday displays from November 28 through December 30 — complete with live music, trolley decorations, and the signature BYOB fun that has made it one of Philly’s most beloved seasonal experiences. What began nearly a decade ago as a small, community-driven fundraiser has grown into one of the region’s most sought-after holiday experiences. In 2016, Founding Footsteps launched Philadelphia’s first-ever Holiday Lights Tour by renting two trolleys and donating 100% of ticket proceeds to local nonprofits. Since then, the event has evolved into a citywide celebration that continues to support local artists and bring together families, friends, and holiday revelers.
“For many of our riders, this tour has become a part of their family tradition,” said a Founding Footsteps representative. “We put everything we have into creating a memorable experience for our guests. Families have been coming back year after year, and that’s something we take great pride in — it’s why we work so hard to make each season even more special,” states owner Tim McAleer.
This year, guests are invited to bring a holiday ornament marked with their Instagram handle. Each week, one ornament will be selected, and its creator will win special prizes throughout the season. “This felt like a great way to make our guests part of the experience,” organizers said. “It’s a simple gesture that turns our riders into part of the holiday story,” Tim adds.
In true Founding Footsteps fashion, the Holiday Lights Tour will once again feature live local musicians performing festive sets on board, creating a one-of-a-kind soundtrack for each ride. This year’s lineup includes Brie Emsee, Tye Vallone, Brie Larson, Will Currier, Ashton Ramos, Remy Gold, Michael Berg, Sarah Winston, Tom Monari, Tube Frank, Rob Tait, and Katie Feeney, among others — all performing holiday favorites and original tunes to keep the energy high and spirits bright.
Guests are encouraged to decorate their trolley, don their best holiday sweaters, and bring along their favorite beverages for the ride. Each tour travels through some of Philadelphia’s most iconic holiday displays, including South Philly’s Miracle on 13th Street, while guides provide entertaining commentary filled with humor and history.
