The new Indoor-Outdoor Dog Bar “The Boozy Mutt” Just Opened Its Doors in Fairmount

After nearly two years of building and preparation, The Boozy Mutt, an indoor-outdoor dog bar and restaurant located at 2639 Poplar Street (the corner of 27th and Poplar) in Fairmount neighborhood opened its doors.

The Boozy Mutt is a bar and restaurant with an off-leash dog park, allowing customers to let their fur babies play, eat with their families, and even host birthday parties. The Mattiola’s conceived this interactive concept during the coronavirus pandemic and eventually signed a lease for the former North Star Bar in July of 2022. The 7,500 square-foot property includes an expansive 3,120 square-foot artificial grass yard and a two-story brick building complete with a restaurant, private event space, retail merchandise area, and a dog wash room. The 140-seat restaurant and bar offers menus for both humans and dogs.

Executive Chef Alex Osborne is serving a variety of dishes  including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. His “small-ish” plates range from $8 to $17, including Fairmount Fries and Falafel Encrusted Salmon. “Salads” and “Handhelds” range from $14 to $19, including a Mexican Street Corn & Shaved Brussels Caesar, a Smash Mutt Burger, and a Crabby Patty. Weekend brunch service will feature menu items priced between $12 and $17, including Fried Chicken & Woofles, a Sourdough French Toast and a variety of omelets.

The Mattiola’s and General Manager Travis Roupp spent considerable time designing their wine and beer program, selecting several local brewers including Lost Time, New Trail, Carbon Copy, Second District and Tonewood. There’s eight rotating taps, a handful of seasonal wines, and a selection of creative cocktails and non-alcoholic options.

No need to feed your dog before heading to the Boozy Mutt. Dogs have a seat at the table, too. Furry friends can enjoy a variety of different snacks, main courses and treats ranging from $4 to $6. This thoughtful menu incorporates simple ingredients to produce a variety of tail-wagging selections, including Coconut Chicken “Nuggies”; a Pumpkin & Egg White Quiche; and a “Housemade Biscuits” platter, featuring peanut butter, carrot-ginger, coconut rice, and pumpkin.

The Boozy Mutt is open to humans 21+, with no pet requirements or entry fees.

“While dogs are our inspiration, you don’t need a dog to visit the Boozy Mutt,” said Allison. “The idea of inclusivity is what prompted the name. We are so excited to share this amazing experience with all dog lovers – whether you own a dog or not. Plus, watching the dogs play is an incredibly fun and therapeutic experience.”

Those interested in bringing their dogs have several membership options, including daily, monthly and annual passes. Day passes are available “to sniff around” for $10 on weekdays and $15 on weekends, while monthly and yearly memberships offer access to higher amenities including special events, retail credit, food/drink specials, complimentary dog washes and more. All dogs must be registered with all up-to-date vaccinations through the Boozy Mutt website before entering the business.

“Safety will always be our top priority,” said Sam. “Enforcing rules similar to the ones in place in most doggy daycare businesses is necessary because we have to be prepared for anything.” To ensure the ulti-mutt experience for the dogs and guests alike, the Boozy Mutt team includes trained and dog-CPR certified “Rufferees” to help keep everyone safe, monitor dog play, maintain cleanliness, and replenish water bowls.
