The Longest Running Jazz Club in Philly, Chris’ Jazz Cafe is Celebrating 35th Anniversary in September
Chris’ Jazz Café, the legendary Philadelphia jazz club known for serving up hot jazz and high-brow cuisine, celebrates its 35th anniversary in September! The club is marking the occasion with a monthlong celebration that includes a who’s who of veteran headliners and up-and-coming performers. “We’re truly honored to be the longest continuously operating jazz venue in Philadelphia,” said Chef/Owner Mark DeNinno. “We hope area jazz lovers will come out and mark this milestone with us.”
The music lineup in September is comprised of superb young talent and award-winning jazz veterans. Here’s the schedule:
· Friday & Saturday, September 6 & 7 – Trumpeter/Vocalist Benny Benack III & his sextet, featuring vocalist Kate Kortum
· Friday, September 13 – Pianist Kevin Hays’ 7th Sense
· Saturday, September 14 – Bassist Jon Michel & his All Star Quartet
· Friday & Saturday, September 20 & 21 – Pianist Joe Block’s Tribute ~ Kind of Blue
· Friday & Saturday, September 27 & 28 – Vocalist Anaïs Reno’s All Star Quintet
In addition, during the month of September DeNinno said he will be featuring some of the most beloved dishes from the last three decades at the club including: Pan Seared Diver Scallops with sweet English pea purée and elderberry coulis; Bang Bang Mussels in Pernod mussels jus; Duck Terrine with pistachios, sour cherries, and orange zest; and Blood Orange and Tarragon Crème Brûlée.
