The Discovery Center is Offering a Day of Free Ziplining, Rock Climbing, Canoeing and More
If you’re looking for a fun and cheap day full of fun and adventure then we have you covered. On Saturday, October 1st, everyone is invited to join The Discovery Center and the Philadelphia Outward Bound School (POBS) for the inaugural Discovery Fest.
This a one-of-a-kind celebration of personal challenge and natural discovery is being held in celebration of POBS’s 30th year of serving students in the Philadelphia region.
From 11 AM to 5 PM, attendees will be able to take on several adventurous elements at the Discovery Center site. Activities include a 266-foot zipline, a three-story indoor climbing wall, and a fleet of canoes on the historic Strawberry Mansion Reservoir, as well as bird walks and nature education with Audubon Mid-Atlantic, music, food trucks, facepainting, and special activities from community groups. The best part is that everything is free. This is a great opportunity for families, friends or even make a date. The Discovery Center is located at 3401 Reservoir Drive.
In September of 1992, a group of Philadelphia leaders met to form the Philadelphia Friends of Outward Bound, a grassroots effort to bring Outward Bound’s renowned experiential education programs to students and teachers within the School District of Philadelphia.
Today, the Philadelphia Outward Bound School (POBS), serves more than 6,000 students, teachers, partners, and adults each year and is fully accredited by the Association for Experiential Education. POBS provides an impressive array of courses and programs for youth and adults in Philadelphia and across the region in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. For 30 years, POBS has provided access to Outward Bound’s time tested educational experiences for Philadelphia’s future leaders and we look forward to expanding our reach to more students from schools and communities across our northern Mid-Atlantic region.
