The All New Lidl Grocery Store in Port Richmond Will Offer Healthcare Coverage To All Employees!
With all the Trader Joe hype in Philly a new just as trendy grocery store quietly popped up in Port Richmond this week. Located at 2290 E. Butler Street. (across from the Chick-fil-A) Lidl is a German-import supermarket that has only six locations in Philadelphia.
If you’re not familiar with the brand, like most people no worries here’s a quick rundown. In general you can find your typical grocery items at Lidl including a bakery, flowers, organic fruits and veggies and gluten-free products. In addition Lidl also carries hard-to-find cheeses, specialty sauces, cured meats, and other items that chefs and food lovers will be delighted to find. Lidl also caries kitchen appliances, toys and outdoor furniture.
Known for their low prices and quality goods, Food & Wine claims it’s “like Trader Joe’s, but better” and they also ranked Lidl a Top 3 U.S. Supermarket – ahead of Aldi, Trader Joe’s (gasp), and the uber popular Whole Foods.
However, perhaps their biggest claim to fame is how they treat their employees. Lidl claims to offer wages and benefits that are above the industry standard. In fact Lidl made a statement that they’re expanding healthcare coverage to all workers starting in January 2020, including those working part-time, regardless of the number of hours worked. For a blue collar town like Philly, that’s a big deal.
If you want to check out the store their hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
