STARR Launches a New Canned Wine Program at El Vez & El Rey and Many are The First in the State
This week, El Vez & El Rey are unveiling first-of-its-kind canned wines in favor of traditional by-the-glass pours. Not only are these new craft-beer-like wines a first for STARR, but many canned wines on the list are also a first for the state of Pennsylvania. In addition to a fun new way to consume wine, the program focuses on eliminating waste – no unfinished bottles behind the bar. – and will essentially replace traditional bottle programs.
The canned wines will launch with 7 types for every palate:
PRISMA Pinot Noir (Chile): Lively & fresh, the fruit in each can is 100% hand-harvested and includes the mineral driven quality of the granite soil they’re grown in
o $19 8 oz. can; equivalent to 1 ¾ glasses
o Available at El Vez & El Rey
SANS Wine Co. Sparkling Rose (Carignan, CA): This sparkling Rose is made solely from organically grown Zinfandel grapes and is fermented in 100% stainless steel. Its vibrant flavor is layered with plum, blackberry, chili pepper and sweet tobacco.
o $29 13 oz. can; equivalent to 2.5 glasses
o Available at El Vez
PRISMA Sauvignon Blanc (Chile): Each grape used has been sustainably grown and hand-picked from vineyards in Chile. This wine is distinguished by the purity of its grapes and has a delicate balance of flavors. The citrus notes paired with crisp acidity make each sip as refreshing as the first
o $19 8 oz. can
o Available at El Vez
Ferdinand Albarino (CA): This Albariño is meant to be reminiscent of the varietal’s origin in the Galicia region of Spain. Its profile showcases savory salinity (this marcona almonds and cheese rinds), and is driven by the sweet, zesty citrus (this orange blossom and lime zest). The vineyard that this fruit comes from, ‘La Luna’, is located in the Sierra Foothills, southeast of Napa Valley. It is arguably the most impressive Albariño vineyard in California, and boasts concentrated, yet nuanced expressions of this varietal.
o $28 13 oz. can
NEW TO THE STATE OF PA
Available at El Vez & El Rey
Ferdinand Rose (Sierra Foothills, CA): Also known as “Rose Petals for Days,” this Rose is delicate with a light orange/pink-ish hue. The profile offers hints of bruléed orange peel, tart red fruit (cranberry, red currant, sour cherry). It has flowery, distinctly present aromatics, even out of the can.
o $28 13 oz. can
o NEW TO THE STATE OF PA!
o Available at El Vez
Vina Maitia, Aupa Pipeno (Chile): Pipeño is a rustic wine, largely due to the high proportion of Pais in the blend. It was the FIRST grape that was planted in the Americas, and was brought over by the Spanish.
o $19 8oz can
o Available at El Vez
Anywhere Cellars Rose (CA): The style of this Rosé is light fresh, and coiffable without argument. It is crispy with ripe cherry and strawberry flesh. With an underlying fresh acidity it is exceptionally balanced and excellent as a soloist.
o $28 13 oz. can; equivalent to 2.5 glasses
Available at El Vez
In addition to a fun new way to consume wine, the program focuses on eliminating waste – no unfinished bottles behind the bar! – and will essentially replace traditional bottle programs. In addition to the canned wines, El Vez & El Rey will keep (1) house red and (1) house white by the glass. LMNO will quickly follow suit with their own canned wine program, including a variety by Brick & Mortar (which will also be new to the state of PA)
