Shhh… Multiverse Is Hosting a Silent Book Club Series Where Bookworms Gather to Read and Quietly Connect
After the success of Multiverse’s summertime outdoor gatherings, Silent Book Club—Winter Edition is bringing its beloved low-key reading ritual indoors this February, offering book lovers a warm, welcoming place to unplug, read, and quietly connect with fellow readers.
Taking place on Thursday, February 12, from 7:00–9:00 PM, the winter edition will hosted by Multiverse and will take place at Baker Street Bread Cafe (8009 Germantown Avenue), transforming the neighborhood café into a peaceful reading haven for the evening.
Doors open at 6:45 PM, giving attendees time to grab a hot beverage or pastry and settle in. From 7:00–8:00 PM, everyone reads silently—no discussion, no pressure, just focused reading time. Afterward, those who want to socialize can stick around for relaxed conversation, sharing what they’re reading or chatting one-on-one with fellow book lovers.
All forms of reading are welcome: physical books, e-readers, comics, manga, and even audiobooks. Guests can come solo or bring friends, and there’s no requirement to make a purchase to participate.
Silent Book Club is part of a national movement centered on communal reading without the structure or obligation of traditional book clubs. The local Chestnut Hill chapter launched in summer 2024, inspired by similar groups in other cities and created in partnership with the Chestnut Hill Community Association and neighborhood bookstores.
That first summer, weekly meetups were held in Pastorius Park, drawing 30–40 readers per session. After repeating the successful format in summer 2025, organizers decided to adapt the concept for colder months—partnering with Baker Street Bread Cafe for a cozy indoor winter series.
Multiverse sees Silent Book Club as more than just reading time—it’s about building community. By creating a judgment-free space where readers can simply show up and enjoy books together, the series reinforces the idea that bookstores and cafés can be gathering places, not just transactional spaces.
The Winter Silent Book Club will continue on the second Thursday of each month from January through March, making it a perfect recurring ritual for anyone looking to slow down during the colder months.
Whether you’re deep into a novel, catching up on audiobooks, or just craving a quiet night out with like-minded people, Silent Book Club—Winter Edition offers the rare pleasure of doing absolutely nothing… together.
