Philly’s Newest Breakfast Spot, The Breakfast Den is Putting a Vietnamese Twist on Breakfast

Last week a cozy breakfast spot opened its doors on the corner of 15th & South St.  The Breakfast Den (1500 South St.) held a July 11th soft opening and it was special for two reasons.  For one it’s a very encouraging sign to see new restaurants sprouting up when so many have shuttered their doors.  However, what really makes this breakfast spot unique is its fusion of American and Vietnamese dishes to create one-of-a-kind breakfast dishes.

the breakfast denOwner Huyen is a Vietnamese immigrant who grew up in West Philadelphia.  It was her mother’s incorporation of American and Vietnamese food that inspired her to create the dishes she’s serving today. “Ive always loved to cook and never found more comfort in any industry like the hospitality industry,”  Huyen states.

Huyen initially planned for a May opening  for The Breakfast Den but those plans were quickly dashed due to the pandemic.  As a person who sees the cup half full, the break was a blessing in disguise. “I had planned for a May opening but then we had a global pandemic. It actually gave me more time to focus on TBD and create a menu and space that feels like a home away from home for my guests especially at a time like this.”

Now Philadelphians will get to experience breakfast with Vietnamese flair.  For those wondering, yes there are vegetarian options to enjoy here as well. Dishes include breakfast bowls, bacon and sausages in their Banh Mi Op La, French toast sticks, TBD Bamhi mi with either pulled pork, fried chicken, herby roasted chicken or crispy eggplant with house pickles, cucumbers, jalapeño, herbs, Viet aioli, and eggplant pate.  You’ll also be able to wash down all this goodness with Vietnamese iced the breakfast dencoffee, Vietnamese espresso or a variety of juices and teas.

Huyen is planning on hosting a grand opening but for now guests can swing by and grab a seat in their outdoor dining section.  The Breakfast Den’s hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday 8am to 4pm.
