Philly’s Biggest Emo Party, Sad & Boujee is Celebrating Their 5th Anniversary Aboard the Moshulu
It all started five years ago when the Sad & Boujee team we were coming off selling out Voltage Lounge in Philadelphia pretty consistently then they wanted to go bigger. “I have a good relationship with the team over at Sad Summer Festival and approached them about the concept of doing an afterparty for Sad Summer and teaming up with Sad & Boujee to be the official partner. But we needed a big space to pull this off and Voltage wasn’t going to cut it. We spoke to Moshulu about the idea and they loved it. We confirmed the guys in Mayday Parade and State Champs to be our special guests and had our first ever Moshulu boat party on July 13th 2019,” states Sad & Boujee’s Sean Salm.
The time has breezed by and over the course of these five years Sad & Boujee has went on to become Philly’s biggest emo party that has featured countless themes and guest appearances. Now fans and partygoers can join in on the celebration as Sad & Boujee hosts their 5th anniversary party aboard the Moshulu on Saturday May 18th starting at 10 pm. “We’re always looking to go big every year onboard The Moshulu and top the year previous. We usually kick off the first of the season and build from there. Without giving too much away, we’re looking forward to bringing back some old special guest friends as well as welcoming in new ones this season. You’ll just have to wait and see,” Sean stated.
So what has been the team’s best memory over the years? “Hands down my best memory was our first party with Limp Bizkit’s, Fred Durst back in October 2022. Fred’s a good friend of mine and we were spitballing ideas for the past year on how we could collaborate on an event with Sad & Boujee. Fred approached me in early summer of 2022 with the idea of a Halloween party on the boat. To be honest, at the time knowing how busy he was with touring, I didn’t even know it was possible. Fred flew into Philly from LA and went out with friends to NorthBowl and I presented him the art for the first time that night, pitched the concept and Sad & Boujee Presents: Freddy D’s House Party of Horror’s was a done deal,” Sean described. “He (Fred) stormed into the crowd for nearly two hours, emceeing, signing autographs, taking selfies, you name it. He sang along to Deftones “My Own Summer”, Korn “Blind”, Blink 182 “All The Small Things”, Britney Spears, we even played Limp Bizkit’s “N 2Gether Now” and who knows when the last time he’s performed that song live, likely years,” adds Sean
Tickets to the 5th anniversary party are $20 for general admission ($15 a piece for 4 packs) and can be purchased on Eventbrite.
