Philly Cheese School Unveils A Brie-lliant Line-Up Of Cheese Pairing Classes Including Halloween Candy & Cheese

After a wildly successful launch, Philly Cheese School  (701 S 9th St.) is keeping the gouda times rolling with a host of fun and funky cheese pairing classes including Cheese & Cereal Pairing Class on Saturday, September 24. Following, turophiles can partake in experimental classes incorporating cheese accompanied by mezcal, mocktails, gummies, and more, all leading up to Trick or Cheese: Halloween Candy & Cheese Pairing Class on Monday, October 31.

Philly Cheese School is a LGBTQ+ and woman-owned business that offers fun and informative classes on how to serve, pair, and enjoy all the heady and delicious nuances of cheese. Helmed by Founder and expert cheesemonger Julia Birnbaum, Philly Cheese School offers folks an outlet to learn the fundamentals of dairy delicacies dubbed Cheese Basics, which spans an hour and a half in length. For $50/person, guests will be greeted with a plate of five artisanal fromages, which vary by seasonality but could include one soft cheese, young goat gouda, aged cheddar, blue cheese, and more – in addition to gluten-free charcoal crackers and pairings such as jams, honeys, sweetened nuts, and olives. Tickets for upcoming Cheese Basics classes slated for Monday, October 4, Sunday, October 16, and Friday, October 28 are available at PhillyCheeseSchool.com/events

In addition to Cheese Basics, Philly Cheese School offers fans of fromage the chance to experience cheese paired with out-of-the-box, creative accoutrements including the following classes:

  • Cheese & Cereal Pairing Class on Saturday, September 24 – Four artisanal cheeses expertly paired with four classic dry cereals. ($60/person, 5pm – 6:30pm)
  • Cheese & Gummies Pairing Class on Friday, September 30 – A selection of artisanal cheeses presented alongside coveted gummy treats, led by Alexandra Stanton, local New Jersey-based cheesemonger and American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional. ($60/person, 6pm – 7pm)
  • Mezcal & Cheese Pairing Class with Julia Gross on Friday, October 7 – Guided by Philadelphia-native and mezcal expert Julia Gross, this mezcal and cheese pairing class will feature some of Gross’ favorite and hardest-to-find pairings. The class will focus on the relationship between artisan producers of cheese and mezcal, and how they relate to their land and history. ($70/person, 6pm – 7pm)
  • Mocktails & Cheese Class with Fever-Tree on Friday, October 14 – A flight of non-alcoholic mocktails thoughtfully paired with artisanal cheeses, curated by Samantha Kane of Fever-Tree. ($70/person, 6pm – 7pm)
  • Trick or Cheese: Halloween Candy & Cheese Pairing Class on Monday, October 31 – A spook-tastic cheese and Halloween candy pairing class, providing tips and tricks on pairing sweet treats and classic candies with cheese. Costumes are highly encouraged. ($60/person, 5pm – 6pm)

“My goal with Philly Cheese School is to create a fun yet informative outlet for those interested in learning more about the science and history behind cheese,” said Birnbaum. “By adding in a variety of quirky classes and special guests such as Mezcal & Cheese Pairing with Julia Gross and our Trick or Cheese Halloween event, I’m confident our guests will have something new and fun to enjoy with every visit to the Cheese School.”
