In a sports crazed town such as Philly, you’d be hard pressed to go throughout your day without seeing folks rocking our local sports teams. However, what about the teams from yesteryear? Well Philly-based clothing brand For The Culture recently collaborated with Ebbets Field Flannel to create a special capsule that pays homage to the Philadelphia Stars who played in the Negro League.

Today, everyone knows the Phillies, who’ve been around more than a century. Philadelphia baseball aficionados also know the Athletics, who moved away to Kansas City and then landed in Oakland. But the city of brotherly love was also home to another pennant-winning team: the Philadelphia Stars. Locked out of the mainstream, the Stars attracted elite players when Black baseball talent was barred from the majors. The club won the Negro National League championship in 1934, and featured some of the greatest ever to suit up — Hall of Famers like five-time All-Star Biz Mackey, and Jud Wilson.

Now through this partnership, Philadelphians and baseball fans in general will be able to represent this historical team. This partnership will include a collection featuring a baseball jersey, hoodies, and hats. The collection will be available for purchase on Ebbets Field Flannels and Lids, ensuring fans have easy access to these limited-edition pieces.

While Major League Baseball’s (MLB) diversity is increasing, as approximately 40 percent of the MLB are players of color— but amongst those, only about 6% identify as Black or African American. This represents a 1 percent decrease from 2021, and marks the lowest representation since data was first collected in 1991, when 18 percent of MLB players were Black. This collaboration celebrates the rich history of Negro League Baseball and emphasizes the importance and impact of Black players on today’s game.

To celebrate the kick-off of the release, For the Culture will be hosting a launch event on Saturday April 6th at the LIDS located at King of Prussia (2nd Fl) from 12-6 pm featuring exclusive merchandise, live music and more.

The collection seeks to capture the legacy of the historical baseball team while the look and feel aligns to a contemporary streetwear aesthetic. The collection includes:
● Philadelphia Stars Baseball Jersey: The centerpiece of the collection, featuring the iconic Philadelphia Stars logo and a timeless design inspired by the team’s heritage.

● Stars of Philly Hoodies: Cozy, comfortable, and dripping with Philly pride, these hoodies feature an exclusive design that combines vintage aesthetics with modern streetwear sensibilities.

● Philadelphia Stars Hats: A must-have accessory for any streetwear aficionado or baseball enthusiast, these snapbacks and fitted caps boast the Philadelphia Stars emblem and sleek, contemporary detailing.

Collection Marketing/ Promotional Recommendations:

● Photo and/or Video Shoots: Content from the shoot will be shared across all partner digital and social media channels/ platforms, and pitched to media outlets.
