Philly-Based Cannabis Company “Bomaye” is Hosting a Dispensary Crawl to Help BIPOC to Access Medical Marijuana
Bomaye is a Zulu term which translates to “You Can Do it.” Founded in December of 2020, Bomaye is the first Black-owned cannabis company to approve people for a medical marijuana card in just two days – throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania with a plan to expand to Florida this summer 2022. For those looking to obtain a medical marijuana card and take part of a Cannabis dispensary tour, Bomaye is organizing one on June 25th from from 2-8 pm.
“This event will attract attention from the Black community as well as other communities of color. Our dispensary crawl aims to provide Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) with access to medical marijuana, by escorting them from a central location to two cannabis dispensaries in downtown Philadelphia,” states Bomaye Founder and C.E.O John P. Turner.
Guests of the crawl will meet at a central location and be transported to Ethos and Beyond Hello downtown (this part is only for PA Medical Marijuana Cardholders). Afterwards, crawl attendees will visit the Hip Hemp Cafe then the event finale will take place at a secret location before being dropped off at the initial meeting point. “There are only 10 seats available to make this an intimate event,” John adds. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased here.
“The Black Dispensary Tour was organized after several of our patients informed us that they had not been to a dispensary, in the six months that passed since they were approved by our company for a medical marijuana card. The reason being that they didn’t know where to go and were intimated by what they thought was a daunting process to get their cannabis medicine. So, my team and I organized this dispensary crawl to make medical marijuana accessible to our patients,” John explains.
Educating more BIPOC on the Cannabis industry is a personal mission for John, “Two experiences made me decide to get into the cannabis industry. First, my dad is a defense attorney, and he represents a lot of Black men between the ages of 17-24 who are facing real time for non-violent marijuana-related charges. The second experience was my mom developing metastatic breast cancer and undergoing a double mastectomy. My mother used medical marijuana to treat her symptoms. I feel an obligation to help people of color who may not be aware of the medical benefits of medical marijuana as well as those who have been impacted by the War on Drugs. More Black people need to start cannabis companies. I’m all about helping to create sustainable Black cannabis companies,”
For those looking to obtain a medical marijuana card, John states, “Our medical marijuana card approval process only takes two days and its 100% online. Our physician is a retired heart surgeon who has been prescribing medical marijuana since the start of the program in New Jersey. We also give $25 referral bonuses to our Brand Ambassadors for anyone you refer who schedules an appointment.”
