One of Philly’s Legendary Views is No Longer: R2L Restaurant is Closed For Good!
Another staple in Philly’s restaurant scene bites the dust. The R2L Restaurant is closed. Situated on the 37th floor of Two Liberty, R2L dazzled diners with sweeping views of Philadelphia.
It was reported that Chef Daniel Stern and his establishment fell victim in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Although, staff were paid via the government’s Payment Protection Program, R2L just couldn’t make it through the storm.
Chef Stern who hails from Cherry Hill, began his journey in the Philly food scene almost 20 years ago when he became an executive chef at Le Bec-Fin. Le Bec Fin was the only restaurant in Philadelphia to be awarded 5 stars by Forbes’ Mobil Travel Guide. Eventually Le Bec-Fin decided to voluntarily give up 1 star for a more relaxed atmosphere.
After striking success with Le Bec-Fin Chef Stern went on to open other restaurants including Gayle in Queen Village and Rae in University City. However, both restaurants shuttered in 2009.
Chef Stern is no stranger to openings and closing so this isn’t the last we’ll hear of him. Philadelphians will definitely miss the R2L views which made dates, meetings and happy hours breath taking.
