Middle Child is Opening its New Location in the Heart of Fishtown
If you ever were in the mood for breakfast or lunch in Center City in the last four years, chances are good that you ended up at the popular eatery Middle Child (248 S. 11th St.). Known for its modern take on classic dishes, foodies have been flocking here since its doors opened. Now owner Matt Cahn is opening a new set of doors, this time in the booming Fishtown neighborhood.
The new Middle Child Fishtown location is scheduled to open October 19th and will be located at 1232 N. Front St. (Front & Girard) but this time the “child” will be all grown up. Cahn is expanding his menu to offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as a full bar. “Fishtown is popping-up like crazy. We were in Center City and wanted to make sure our new location was busy with lots of foot traffic.” Cahn explains his new location choice. “Middle Child started off as a lunch spot which is how we got the name because lunch is like the middle child between breakfast and dinner. We wanted a fun atmosphere with no frills or bullshit and I am also a middle child,” Cahn adds.
Matt is also tapping into the local area to ensure his new location will be locally sourced . “We’re growing from a breakfast/lunch set-up to a full bar with natural organic wines. Everything in the shop is made by local people from the wine to the furniture as well as the art that will be in the shop,” Matt proudly boasts. Included in the bar selection will be frozen cocktails. The menu will include many classic items guests have grown to love from their first location including their breakfast sandwiches. Dinner items include burgers, patty melt, chicken Milanese, and shrimp + Shishito.
Fishtown’s Middle Child location will seat a total of 120 guests with 60 seats assigned strictly for reservations while the remaining 60 will be for walk-ins. “I wanted to make sure that locals can come right in and have a seat but also have seats for those coming in from outside the area to reserve if they want to plan their night,” Cahn explains. Middle Child will be open for breakfast 8 am – 2pm Tuesday and Wednesday 8 am -2pm, Thursday 8 am -10 pm, Friday and Saturday, 8 am – 11pm, and Sunday 8 am -10 pm (closed Mondays)
